Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains how probly.so (“Probly”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores, and discloses your personal information. We handle personal data in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

1. Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to all visitors and users of probly.so, regardless of location. You must be at least 18 years of age to use Probly. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has submitted data to us, please contact us immediately so we can delete it.

2. What data we collect and why

Account & email

When you sign in or subscribe to match alerts we collect your email address. We use it to send transactional emails (sign-in magic links, alert notifications, subscription receipts) and, where you opt in, product updates. We do not send unsolicited marketing email. Email is stored in our Supabase database hosted on AWS (Sydney region where available).

Usage data & analytics (PostHog)

We use PostHogfor product analytics. PostHog is only initialised after you click “OK” on our cookie notice. If you do not consent, no analytics data is collected or transmitted to PostHog.

When analytics is active, PostHog may collect: pages visited, features used, session duration, browser type, operating system, approximate geographic location (country/city derived from IP), and custom events such as affiliate link clicks. IP addresses are processed by PostHog but we do not store raw IPs in our own database. PostHog’s privacy policy is available at posthog.com/privacy.

Payments (Stripe)

Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe, Inc.Stripe collects and stores your payment card details directly — we never receive or store raw card numbers. We store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription status in our database so we can manage your account. Stripe’s privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.

Paper picks & leaderboard data

If you submit paper picks your picks and associated accuracy statistics may be displayed publicly on the Probly leaderboard. Your display name or email prefix may be shown. You can delete your account and all associated picks by contacting us at hello@probly.so.

Affiliate link clicks

When you click an affiliate link (TAB, Bet365, Sportsbet, Kalshi) we log the platform, match slug, and timestamp. This is used for internal analytics and is not linked to your personal identity unless you are signed in. We may receive a commission from these platforms when you register or place a wager through our links.

Referral codes

If you arrive via a referral link we store a short referral code in a cookie for up to 30 days to credit the referrer. The code is anonymous and not linked to any personal identifier.

Server logs

Our hosting provider (Vercel) automatically retains standard server access logs including IP addresses and request metadata for up to 30 days for security and reliability purposes.

3. Data retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Specific retention periods:

• Account / email: held until you request deletion or your account is inactive for more than 3 years.
• Subscription records: retained for 7 years to meet Australian financial record-keeping obligations.
• Analytics events: stored by PostHog per their retention settings (typically 1 year on the free tier, longer on paid plans).
• Affiliate click logs: retained for 13 months, then deleted.
• Paper picks: retained for the life of your account; deleted on account deletion request.

4. Who we share data with

We share personal data only with the service providers necessary to operate Probly:

• Supabase — database and authentication (AWS-hosted)
• Stripe — payment processing
• PostHog — product analytics (consent-gated)
• Resend — transactional email delivery
• Vercel — web hosting and edge infrastructure

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We do not share data with advertisers.

Some processors operate servers outside Australia. Where data is transferred internationally, we rely on the contractual protections and data-processing agreements provided by each processor.

5. Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Act and, where applicable, the GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate or outdated information.
• Delete your account and associated personal data (subject to legal retention obligations).
• Withdraw analytics consent at any time (see “Cookie settings” below).
• Unsubscribe from non-transactional emails via the unsubscribe link in any email.
• Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au if you believe we have mishandled your information.

6. Cookie settings

Probly uses a small number of cookies and browser storage items:

• Authentication cookies (Supabase session) — strictly necessary, always active.
• Sidebar state — a preference cookie; no personal data.
• Referral code — a short anonymous value stored for up to 30 days.
• Analytics (PostHog)— only set after you click “OK” on the cookie banner.

To withdraw analytics consent, clear site data for probly.so in your browser settings, or email hello@probly.so and we will reset your preference.

7. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information, including TLS encryption in transit, row-level security on our database, and restricted access to production credentials. No transmission over the internet is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of Probly after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
